As a child I was a firm Faraway Tree fan. I used to dream about being one of the gang: hanging out with Moonface and Saucepan Man and visiting the worlds which fleetingly pass the top of the tree, taking care not to get trapped there.

Nowadays I AM one of those adventurers, except its my Mum I'm hoping to see at the next turn. And when I get to the top its almost always The Land of Living in The Moment. Mum is there, or someone who looks and sounds like her, with similar anecdotes and idioms. Before I know it, its time to go and I have to wave her off with a smile, secretly hoping that next time it will be The Land of No Alzheimers.
The Land of No Alzheimers only comes around now and then, and its visits are increasingly rare and fleeting. It can be a daft smile, a quirky quip or a happy face. Mum is in there, I KNOW she is. Our strong, caring, proud and supportive Mum. I miss my Mum.
